Whoops. Bit late again. Had to shift gears because of some time constraints from today, but also because... because... DG got me a new toy:
What? What's that? You think I'm lame? I'm sorry -- I can't hear you over the delicious click-clack of its titanium frame. I was originally going to show you my new bell jar, but I couldn't not try this out on something.
So, dear readers, as you may recall, today (Sept. 18 because I am a doofus and missed my official 17th day entry) is the anniversary of the day I came kicking and screaming out of my poor mother's womb, thus ensuring world destruction. Or... something.
DG got a bit excited and decided to give me a couple of my gifts early. The first was this little number:
A comfy little 90s style choker. We both liked the collar itself, but weren't super keen on the bell (it felt a little Tokyo Mew Mew), and the rose, while cute, was a bit askew, so I snipped off the bell with the mini scissors and took out the rose with just a seam ripper (needed a bit more precision).
Both of us agreed it might look better if we replace it with something else.
I picked this up from AC Moore earlier this month for something ridiculous like 79¢ per a bag of 10 pieces on sale. Pretty, but a little plain on its own. I had an idea of what I wanted to do with it, but wasn't sure until recently that I was going to go through with it. Remember this?
That key is supposed to "go" to something.
First order of business was to engrave the metal of the heart pendant using my Dremel:
Not pictured - held down the pendant with the pliers while I drilled and filed it a bit. Also, here's a tip learned from the school of hard-knocks -- apparently you can't leave your Dremel on metal too long, or you'll burn out your motor. The more you know :/
Unsurprisingly, the metal was some sort of aluminum alloy - very soft, and the wrong color. Easily fixed with a bit of paint:
And then darkened with a little black to give the illusion of depth:
And, voila!
Until the next.
