Well.  It's done.  I think.

Frankly, I'm not terribly proud of it.  It's very messy looking, and it looks nothing like the original picture in my head.  But, I did spend the better part of a week working on it, and I did say that I would share the pictures, no matter the outcome.  So, here they are, for your perusal:

All plastic bags, electrical tape, velcro, and duct tape.  At this point, I don't know if I'll still wear it to Geek Creation Show, or ever again, for that matter.  Don't get me wrong, it was great fun and a neat little experience, but I think I'll stick to fabric from now on.
